At approximately 5pm on Friday evening search and rescue volunteers were activated to respond to a rapidly spreading brush fire near Vitae Springs Rd S. in South Salem. More than 20 volunteers responded to assist with immediate level 3, go now, evacuations for more than 100 homes near the fire. Volunteers continued to man road closures, patrol the area, and assist with evacuations for 3 days while firefighters gained control of the fire.
There were no reported injuries or structures lost. According to the City of Salem, the fire burned approximately 164 acre.
